Hannover international airport (IATA Code: HAJ) lies 11 kilometres / 7 miles from Hannover city, capital of the German state of Lower Saxony.

After suffering heavy bombing during the second world war Hannover has risen out of the ashes to become the third-largest city in Northern Germany.

Perhaps Hannover’s most famous attraction is the Herrenhausen Gardens, dating back over 300 years the gardens are a world-renowned example of grand horticultural style. The centrepiece of the gardens is the Herrenhausen Palace, a former royal summer residence of the House of Hanover dynasty. The original palace was destroyed during the second world war but has been recently reconstructed to become a jewel once again in the cities crown.

For some of the best views of the city visitors should head for the New Town Hall, a castle-like building embedded in the 25-acre Maschpark. The dome sits over 97 meters high and has a unique diagonal/arch elevator that travels  up the large dome at a 17-degree angle to an observation deck.
