Jože Pučnik – Ljubljana International Airport (IATA Code: LJU) lies 24 kilometres / 15 miles from  Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.

Nestled along the Ljubljanica River, the city is characterised by its baroque and Art Nouveau architecture. Dating back to the 12^th century Ljubljana Castle sits proudly above the city. Since 1848 a guard has fired cannons from the castle viewing  tower warning of fire or announcing important visitor and events. This tradition continues to this day.

An hour outside the city, the glass like water of Lake Bled is a must see with its island Gothic Church providing a picture perfect representation of Slovenia. Visitors can take a trip on the lake on a traditional pletna, similar to a gondola. In 1740 22 local families were granted exclusive rights to be oarsman and ferry pilgrims to the island. Today many of the oarsman descend from the original 22 families.
